Biography

Barbara Stewart has been a proud resident of the North Lawndale neighborhood for over 50 years. She has maintained a lifelong love of learning and expresses this through her participation in community activities to uplift the image of the area. Barbara uses her voice to promote her ‘ungun’ philosophy and believes that by limiting loitering and litter through the personal commitment of residents, the consciousness of all will be raised.

Barbara graduated from Lindblom High School and was trained as a Special Education teacher at Illinois State University. Barbara holds an MBA in Training and Performance Management from Saint Xavier University. She retired from the Chicago Police Department and taught ‘at risk youth’ at Lawrence Hall Youth Services. She raised one daughter, Juell, with whom she enjoys traveling
