Fathers Lead, June 20-July 11, 2021
by Jay Simon
“Fathers Lead is a portrait series that honors multigenerational fatherhood through the art of storytelling. Simon honors fathers’ legacies by using portraiture, video storytelling and roundtable podcast discussions as a way for fathers to tell their stories and change narratives of unfit-dad stereotypes.” - School of the Art Institute, 2019
Fathers Lead is the first exhibit in the Lawndale Pop-Up Spot’s “Refilling Our Wells” summer of exhibits and events.
The exhibit has been extended to July 11.
Opening Event June 20
The opening of “Fathers Lead” was on Father’s Day, June 20, 2021 from 1:30-4:30 pm at the Lawndale Pop-Up Spot, Central Park Ave. & Douglas Blvd.! It coincided with the kick-off to “Refilling Our Wells,” the summer series of events and exhibits intended to bring joy and reconnection.
The kick-off featured live music from Kevin Kjaz Graham and the K-1 band across the street at Stone Temple Baptist Church’s Peace Garden, along with food, free books, massages, and activities for all ages! See photos on the Facebook event page.
